Architectural Design
Wilson’s art reflects a consistent fascination
with architecture, as well as a facility for translating traditional
architectural forms into a vernacular all his own. This interest
comes to the fore in several architectural projects—models
executed for clients or himself. While he has often collaborated
with architects and designers, his true “laboratory”and
largest “work in progress” is perhaps his own home,
which he continues to remodel in phases. (For the best overview
of his models and designs, click through the images.) While Wilson’s
painting and sculpture has always taken precedence over his interest
in architectural design, the body of work reflects an unusual
synthesis: Frank Lloyd Wright, pre-Columbian art, “Star
Wars,” Futurism, and Greco-Roman Classicism. In the end,
Wilson’s architectural signature is very much his own. |
